Music is hard. Creating is hard but sometimes it seems so easy. I seem to stumble through a series of happy accidents. I keep on learning both production and music theory but it never seems enough. The inner critic striking again. I don’t think its perfectionism, I have learn to let go. A project is never finished only abandoned. Why do creatives find it so hard to let go and let things out in to the world. Music to some degree is self reflection, a way to get the inside out.

Like playing an instrument production you can achieve a state of flow but often like when practicing you don’t. Flow is a state where everything seems to gel and time seems to ‘flow’ at a different rate. Often hours will pass and you’ll be totally unware of how much time has past. I still feel like I haven’t got a Clue what I’m doing most of the time.  Both Mixing and producing, you never feel like you’ve even scratched the surface.

.You often find yourself immersed in a sea of technicalities, trends, and external influences. However, amidst this ever-evolving landscape, the true magic of music lies in introspection—a deeply personal and transformative process that allows producers to unlock their unique sonic stories.

Music allows you to express your inner self. Go on a journey of discovery. The tricky area is getting others to join you on that journey.  I currently feel like I’m wrapped up in trying to find listeners rather than creating. Introspection enables producers to tap into their own reservoir of feelings and reflect them in their compositions. By taking the time to dive inward, we can harness the raw authenticity that connects listeners on a profound level, creating music that resonates deeply with both ourselves and others hopefully.

In a world where musical styles can be homogenized, introspection offers a pathway to finding and honing one’s unique sonic identity. By examining our musical preferences, influences, and aspirations, we can distil our individuality into our productions. Introspection helps us embrace our strengths, nurture our distinctiveness, and push boundaries, resulting in a body of work that stands out amidst a sea of sound-alikes.

While external influences undoubtedly shape our musical journeys, introspection acts as a compass, guiding us towards our artistic vision. It allows us to navigate the ever-changing landscape of trends and expectations without compromising our creative integrity. By striking a balance between external influences and internal reflection, we can infuse our productions with a unique blend of familiarity and innovation.
