Long Covid, a condition that extends beyond the usual recovery period after contracting Covid-19, can significantly impact individuals by causing fatigue and other debilitating symptoms. Engaging in activities that require substantial energy and time, such as music production, becomes particularly challenging for those affected.

This article aims to explore strategies that can empower individuals with long Covid to continue their music production endeavors despite the presence of fatigue and other symptoms. We will delve into energy management techniques, the utilization of technology to streamline production processes, and the ability to create exceptional music while grappling with long Covid.

My life underwent a dramatic transformation since contracting Covid last October. Following the initial infection, I experienced a myriad of symptoms and endured nearly two months of complete incapacitation. It was during this period that I began to realize I may be grappling with long Covid, characterized by intermittent symptoms including pain, chronic fatigue, brain fog, and shortness of breath.

Music, once a prominent aspect of my life, suddenly seemed out of reach. Concentration and focus became arduous tasks. Nonetheless, music had always been my means of relaxation and unwinding.

Currently, my situation at work exacerbates some aspects of my condition. The energy I manage to muster is almost entirely depleted by my professional commitments, leaving me exhausted and incapacitated once I return home or have a weekend or a day off.

Navigating the delicate balance of managing my energy levels leaves me with very little time most days when I’m home. I seize the occasional ten or twenty minutes during my commute or whenever I feel well enough to engage in a short activity. Currently, I am focusing on the completion of approximately six tracks, dedicating my research and planning efforts towards implementing the best release strategy.

One challenge I face is the overwhelming feeling that often engulfs me. Balancing time management with brain fog proves to be an interesting endeavor. My mind yearns for creativity, yet my body predominantly succumbs to fatigue, urging me to seek rest.

Amidst these challenges, a few positive aspects have emerged. I find solace in practicing meditation and self-reflection. Additionally, I have incorporated sporadic yoga sessions into my routine, which alleviates some of the limb, hand, and foot pain that seems to persistently afflict me. Furthermore, setting realistic expectations plays a crucial role. By establishing attainable goals and tasks, allowing for ample time to complete them, and simplifying my approach, I can better manage my energy levels. I’ve learned to embrace the notion of doing a little and, if I feel capable, pushing myself to do a bit more. Taking frequent breaks and utilizing timers has proven invaluable.

When confronted with the challenge of music production, employing tools that facilitate the process becomes essential. Products like Scaler and Captain Chords can greatly enhance the production experience.

Gradually, I am making progress, accomplishing a little more here and there, and even creating a few new 8-bar loops. Throughout this journey, the significance of time as a valuable resource has become evident. It is easy to overlook the importance of time and health when everything seems fine. Presently, my mental and physical well-being may not be at their best, but I strive to maintain a positive outlook. With time, I believe things will improve. Another valuable lesson learned is the paramount role of mental health in fostering creativity. I anticipate an intriguing year ahead and look forward to continuous learning and growth.
